COVID 50/50 Action Lab 5: Unleashing the Power of Women’s Movements in Health
Women spend more time, on average, supporting their local communities than men, often in unpaid roles. During COVID-19, we’ve seen women’s groups around the world provide essential services for their communities. The pandemic has increased the demand for women’s movements and organisations, particularly following increases of gender-based violence and vulnerability.
Despite their essential functions, women’s organisations and movements are underfunded in all regions. While overseas development aid from bilateral donors for gender equality and women’s empowerment has increased in the last decade, only .5% of gender-focused donor aid went directly to women’s NGOs in low-income countries in 2017-18.
Join us to hear from experts, advocates and frontline health workers as we highlight the need for resources to reach frontline women’s organisations delivering essential services in health and social care, and unpack how to leverage these movements to address critical issues in global health security.
