Event Title: Re-defining African Leadership: Celebrating African Women Liberators

Background of the event

African Liberation Week commemorates the liberation of African Countries and facilitates discussions key to our collective material survival, our continued albeit precarious independence and our advancement.

The theme for 2022 “Africa for Africans” aims to highlight the need for African wealth and resources to benefit her citizens and for African citizens to take ownership and responsibility with unity of purpose. The activities marking the week will be held from 23rd to 29th of May 2022.

AAC and young feminists are holding a 90-minute webinar event titled ‘Re-defining African Leadership: Celebrating African Women Liberators’ on the 25th of May 2022. Our purpose is to recognize and celebrate the achievements and critical contributions of select African Women Liberators who have fought against patriarchy, shaped the current context and opened the space for young women and girls to occupy leadership roles.

The 90 minutes session will amplify the voices of young feminists in celebration of African Women Liberators in their countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia and South Sudan) and identify advocacy actions for young feminists to continue challenging patriarchy.
