Ideological differences, complex internal bureaucracy and competition for the prominence of organisational logos, are some of the challenges that civil societies in Africa face and need to overcome while working in alliances and coalitions. This is according to Irungu Houghton, the Executive Director of Amnesty International Kenya, who recently delivered the Advocacy Accelerator’s Inaugural Lecture on “Working in coalitions and why this is critical for advocacy in our modern age”. As part of its effort to support country-based advocacy, the Advocacy Accelerator will be hosting a series of lectures that will be delivered by experienced and emerging advocacy leaders, and which delve deep into the common challenges that advocates face.
