Outright UN Rights and Religion Fellowship is a 12-month program that supports LGBTIQ human rights defenders from around the world to harness New York-based United Nations spaces to add value to their existing work and develop their strategies on combating religiously based LGBTIQphobia with peers. We are very excited to inform you that the 2023 Fellowship will be in person!
The program is specifically designed to support existing work defending LGBTIQ people from the impact of religiously motivated violence and discrimination in the Global South and East.
OutRight’s UN Rights and Religion Fellows should:
• Reside and work in the Caribbean, Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, North Africa, Asia or the Pacific.
• Be able to demonstrate an interest and track record in engagement and advocacy efforts in progressing LBTIQ rights. Working on issues caused by or related to religiously based LGBTIQphobia or the anti-gender movement is a plus.
• Be available and committed to participate in person in the high levels meetings in the UN New York calendar and other relevant advocacy meetings
• Be fluent in written and spoken English
Experience working with the United Nations system, including UN agencies and human rights mechanisms, is NOT a prerequisite for this Fellowship.
Women, trans, gender non-conforming, and intersex LGBTIQ human rights defenders are especially encouraged to apply.
