Training: Online Grantsmanship Training

Access to independent funding is critical for the development of scientific career of researchers. The NIHR-Wellcome Global Health Research Partnership was set up between Wellcome and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to support global health researchers who focus on health priorities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Its main aim is to enable joint funding of high-quality submissions from a diversity of applicants. There is an emphasis on grants within areas of mutual interest relating to global health research, including but not limited to: mental health, multimorbidity, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, snakebites.

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) invites you for an interactive 1-hour virtual grantsmanship training session. The aim of this training is to equip early career researchers with knowledge and skills to prepare a winning grant application in response to the NIHR-Wellcome Global Health Research Partnership call.

Objectives of the training:

At the end of the training session, participants will be able to describe what makes a strong application with respect to:

  • The person (applicant)
  • The place (environment)
  • The project (research proposal)
  • Level of preparation

Eligibility requirements:

Early to intermediate level potential grant applicants. That is, individuals who are interested in applying for funding for Masters, PhD, early post-doctoral level through to researchers looking to begin their independent research career.

Training methodology:

The session will be highly participatory and discussion-based characterized by active participation of all participants. A mixture of short presentation by facilitators and discussions will be employed. The language of instruction will be English.
