Kenya- Sudden Opportunity Grant
The Government of Kenya wants to harmonise the system where both functional and foundational systems are served by a single number that fuses all forms of data. The HudumaBill 2019 proposes mandatory new identity issuance, tied to all Government services.
Voice Kenya sees this as an opportunity now that the Parliamentarians are currently deliberating on it to ensure that ethnic minorities and indigenous people are not left behind.
Are you concerned about this Bill that has disabling and restrictive provisions that directly impacts the ability of rightsholders to exercise their freedoms? Do you wish to challenge the state for instituting a system that regulates access to basic human rights like health care, education which are universal human rights? Is there a national opportunity for strategic advocacy, offline protests, or coordination of collective action that can lead to a change in policy/laws or shift in public attitudes and practices?
If you answer yes to the questions above, apply for a Sudden Opportunity Grant to promote collective action by rightsholders!
This grant is available from 5,000 to 100,000 Euro for an intervention that will last between 6 and 12 months.
What does Voice wish to fund?
Collective action that will impact at least one or more of the below rightsholder groups;
- Women facing exploitation, abuse and/or violence,
- People with Disabilities,
- Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people;
- Age discriminated (youth and elderly),
- Indigenous People and Ethnic Minorities.
Voice has a strong preference for projects that intend to work with more than one of the above rightsholder groups to address overlapping vulnerabilities. Your project can look at any or all of the following themes:
- Improved access to (productive) resources (finance, land and water) and employment,
- Improved access to social services, health and education in particular, and
- Space for political participation
